Dead Horse Branding started 10 years ago with married duo Rick Caballo and Melissa Core-Caballo. The branding company started from the “bare bones” and up, said Melissa. The name came from Rick’s Spanish and Australian roots, with Caballo being the Spanish word for horse. Both Rick and Melissa are from Wollongong, Australia. They are self-starters, having left school at an early age to pursue their interests.
Upon meeting one another by a mutual friend from Nashville, the couple have been inseparable for 16 years.
Their business style is creative, not corporate, with a strong family style. They welcome each client as if they were a part of their own household of four.
Rick and Melissa guide their clients in the seamless process of brand building. They have worked with companies like Hallmark, TEDx, and Lionsgate, as well as names like Johnny Depp, Steven Tyler’s Solo Band, Duck Dynasty, the Bo Diddley Estate, and Country Music Hall of Famer Tony Brown.
The seven different areas of focus for brand building are strategy, logo and graphic design, photography, website development, publicity, social media and marketing, and licensing. The team is extremely thorough with the customer’s wishes.
Melissa loves “making others’ dreams come true” and “being the road map to get there.”
Rick and Melissa measure success by the freedom they have in working with others to create something substantial and long-lasting for their clients. The flexibility of their work encourages them to do their best and fuels a passion for their industry. Rick describes the freedom of their work as being “not as tied to the hook.” They are creative with each client, whatever their needs.
When asked if they have achieved success and what success means to them, they answered that having lifelong friendships, relationships with their clients, and a happy family have made them successful.
“Reward to me is the client feels happy and loves what we do,” said Rick, and “seeing a smile on the client’s face.”
